Criteria and Eligibility:

The eligibility according to UAE Driving rules:

  • 17 years old to apply for a motorcycle license
  • 18 years old to apply for car and light Vehicle license
  • 20 years old for heavy vehicles and tractors
  • 21 years old for light and heavy buses.

Note: If you have a license for Manual gear light motor then you are allowed to drive automatic vehicle also but if you are a holder of automatic vehicle license then you are allowed to drive geared vehicles.

Tip: You can save up to 300 AED if you have your own country’s Driving license which is at least 2 years old with you at the time of practical classes. If you have a license of more than 5 years old then you can get 20 classes for free out of your 40 classes and you can save around 600 AED.

The requirement to convert your country’s license:

  • Your country’s original driving license and a copy of it.
  • Valid residence visa copy.
  • A form of license replacement.
  • No Objection letter from the sponsor to replace the license.
  • Optometry form accredited by UAE health authorities.
  • You must pass the eye test conducted by any UAE authorized eye clinic.

Eye test for light motor vehicle drivers:

One eye 6/18 – Second eye 6/18

One eye 6/12 – Second 6/24

One eye 6/6 – Blind

Eye test for heavy vehicle drivers:

One eye 6/6 – Second eye 6/18 or 6/12 or 6/9

One eye 6/9 – Second eye 6/9

Eye test for motorcycle drivers:

Eye test for light and heavy bus drivers:

Drivers who drive tractors, light and heavy buses, mechanical machines they must pass the eye test  Either with or without spectacles with a test result of 6/6 for both eyes.

The applicants who are colour blind must go through the eye test and must pass the test before even applying for the driving license.
